Scripture reference: Daniel 3:16-18 (NIV)
”Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver from your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up”
The words to the song by Beverly Crawford are very simple but so powerful. “If the Lord never does anything for me, He’s done enough”.
The message of the scripture text and the song speak to God’s ability to deliver us from any situation. We must remember that God is in control not matter what we may be dealing with at the time. He is all knowing and all powerful. He can handle anything. If we take an inventory of how many times God has made a way for us, we would probably lose count. If we are really truthful and think of the times of danger we narrowly escaped, the bad decisions that didn’t yield the well-deserved consequences, we would recognize God has done enough to be just that, enough.
The three Hebrew boys, as they are often called, knew the power of their testimony even as they stood before an earthly King. They knew that God, being the Supreme King and Ruler, was able to deliver them from the hand of the enemy. They even went further to say that even if He didn’t deliver them; He was certainly able to do so. Why were they so confident in God’s ability? How could they make such a claim?
It could be that they remembered the stories and accounts from the elders or even more they recalled how God had personally delivered each of them. They didn’t forget God’s faithfulness over the years of their young lives. Going another step further still, they said to the King, that even if God didn’t deliver them, they would not bow down. How powerful is that? Can you say with confidence that God is able to deliver you? What will be your reaction if He doesn’t? Will you stay in the race to fight on another day or will you give up and bow down?
Let the words of Beverly Crawford’s song and the story of the Three Hebrew Boys encourage you.
